Exclusive: Back Stage of Opening Ceremonies!
Author: supsonLadies and gentlemen, as promised, today we have a very special celebrity guest contributor. In the past he’s been the Best Man at my wedding, at present he’s my Olympic Host and in the future he’s Martin Lauze, international superstar.
Martin’s journey to the top began many years ago but this most recent ascension into the stratosphere started a few months back with an unexpected twist of fate. After going to what he thought would be a musical tryout and discovering it was for a broader performer role, he embraced the opportunity. When asked about this fortuitous turn of events he replied:
“I always knew I could be a triple threat -- music, acting and dancing -- and now the whole world knows it too”
Well, maybe not the whole world, just 3.5 billion.
So let’s take a look at some of these awesome backstage photos from last night.
The outside of BC Place just outside the security perimeter. They’ve secured BC and GM Place as a single facility even though they’re across the street -- no small feat:

This is the wardrobe section for the “Rhythms of the Fall” segment. An interesting note -- performers got to keep their leather jackets and shoes (purple hi-top Converse for those without HD tv!):

This is the big holding pen for all the performers, you can see the costumes for the rollerblading Christmas spectacular. No word on what parts of the uni they got to keep:

When you’re a VIP, wardrobe and makeup go hand in hand:

From there it’s into the holding pens. Although it looks like the “Human Barrier” team that’s caged in it’s actually the performers:

That’s Martin with one of the Human Barriers and also with his cast mate partner:

One last check of the floor plan! This is a great shot that gives some appreciation for the unbelievable coordination that goes on:

In this close up Martin is #405:

Everyone’s ready to go, fiddlers and rollerbladers unite!

One last check of the firing mechanism on the violin (which the performers also got to keep, sans the fireworks):

And get into position under the stage! Note the presence of fully armed SWAT team:

And it’s GO TIME! As for the actual performance, here’s the clip where you can clearly see Martin -- 2nd person on the right (had the wrong vid posted earlier -- sorry!):
Our crack AV team took these stills (Shelly paused PVR and took pics) that really capture the action. Look at those moves! Study them, learn them…is that “Blue Steel” or “Le Tigre”?

The obligatory post-show group shot:

All kidding aside, I know everyone is so impressed, jealous and ultimately proud of Martin’s amazing performance. For those that don’t already know, you can check out his mad bass skills on his own site at www.xplauze.ca. Now that his world-wide debut is behind him he can get back to focusing on house sitting his multiple guests!
