Sad News…
Author: supsonAs most of you have probably heard by now 21 year old Nodar Kumaritashvili of Georgia was tragically killed in a frightening crash on the final Luge training run this morning.
If you’ve seen the clip, it’s pretty horrific. Even without hitting a pillar I don’t know how anyone could survive that…a crash in the security of an automobile at 140+ kph is insane, I can’t imagine it happening on a little sled with nothing but a helmet and thin layer of cloth.
Obviously this is the main story right now at the International Media Centre. We’re just flipping through all the international feeds we have and there is already talk of possibly trying to somehow “slow down” what is being called the fastest, steepest Luge run ever.
The run remains closed indefinitely, first heats are scheduled for tomorrow at 5 PST so I’ll keep you posted.
All our positive thoughts go out to this young man’s family and his 7 remaining teammates who I’m sure will have heavy hearts at tonight’s Ceremonies.
